If you like to save money and are in the market for a camera, a refurbished digital camera may be just what you are looking for. These cameras are returned by the buyer for various reasons; maybe they changed their mind, maybe there was a scratch on the camera, or maybe they tried it and decided that it did not have all the features they needed. These cameras are then retested, recertified and resold by the manufacturer. They cannot be sold as new so they are sold as refurbished digital cameras. Most of the time, they are unused or gently used. Three things to be on the lookout for is:
1. Accessories. Be certain that refurbished digital cameras include all the original accessories; for example, the manual, the CD-ROM that contains all the software and drives, the USB interface and AV cables and the wrist strap. Most cameras should also include batteries, a battery charger and a memory card.
2. Warranty. When purchasing refurbished digital cameras make absolutely certain that they are factory refurbished and that they include a parts and labor warranty for up to at least one year. Check into who is providing the warranty; the manufacturer, the retailer or a third party. It would be a good idea to ask for a written copy of the warranty.
3. Reliable Source. Always be certain to buy from a reliable source. Oftentimes, you can buy refurbished digital cameras directly from the manufacturer right off of their website. There should be an icon that will take you to a page where you will be able to peruse all the refurbished cameras they have available. You can also buy refurbished digital cameras off of eBay. There are many reputable retailers that offer them for sale. When purchasing anything off of an auction website, be sure to check the seller’s feedback and to check their return policy and their shipping fees. This will ensure you that they have been selling to happy, satisfied customers and you will feel confident about buying from them.
Almost all refurbished digital cameras have to be returned within a thirty day period so you really are getting something that is practically brand new. Sometimes when the camera arrives at the buyer’s home, the packaging is damaged. The buyer will decide that there could have been some internal damage to the camera, so they send it back for a new one. This camera will then go through the process of being rechecked and sold as a refurbished one. There was literally nothing wrong with it and the new buyer will be getting a brand new camera at a discounted price simply because a manufacturer is not permitted to sell it as a new camera.
It would be a good idea to check around online on the various camera manufacturers’ websites. Compare prices and features and you are sure to find a refurbished digital camera that will meet all of your needs for a fraction of its original price!
